Hamed Abdel-Samad “Hurt” in Egypt

Hamed Abdel-Samad, who fell among the robbers in Egypt, has now given an interview to Der SPIEGEL back in Germany. According to his own statements, he suffered a nervous breakdown after his kidnapping and is understandably still completely worn out. That doesn’t change anything in the fact that the political scientist is apparently completely naïve, and this in connection with his homeland Egypt. During the whole interview he complained about Egyptian authorities.

The police there didn’t react, he was left standing, later the authorities overreacted but didn’t treat him properly, and so on. One asks himself, which air castle in the sky he has been living in up till now. A realist from this world would never come upon the idea that justice functions in an islamic, north African country. Hamed, on the other hand, is insulted:

I ask myself how often I must be insulted by my country? I only wanted to do something good for the country. I am so disappointed; I have truly lost faith in my country. Most of all in the revolution because nothing has changed. The mentality remains fundamentally authoritarian: The government does with people what it pleases. People do with people what pleases them.

Oh, how he praised the “Arab Spring,” and now he’s hurt! This reaction shows that one can forget book author Hamed Abdel-Samad as an expert. One newspaper recently called him a ‘poet,’ which corresponds better with the facts. Even before Hamed Abdel-Samad suggested to Imam Idriz months ago to lodge a complaint against PI, we were extremely skeptical as pertaining to his expert knowledge. “Hamed Abdel-Samed, somewhat quieter, please!” was suggested to him. This suggestion was, as it turns out now, more than justified!
